Facial fillers such as Restylane, Perlane, and Juvederm are naturally occurring gels that are injected into the skin as a "filler" in order to add volume to aging skin, lips and to lift up wrinkles and folds. Most fillers consist of hyaluronic acid, which is a natural component of the skin. Once injected into the skin, fillers work by creating volume. During treatment, the crystal-clear gel is injected into the skin in tiny amounts with a very fine needle. The gel produces volume under the wrinkle, which is lifted up and smoothed out. Sclerotherapy is a popular cosmetic dermatology treatment for unsightly leg veins. It involves an injection of a sclerosing agent into the veins, which irritates the vessels, causing them to collapse shut and become less noticeable. The procedure typically takes 30-60 minutes. When a problem vein is closed off with sclerotherapy, the blood will re-route through the normal veins and flow much more efficiently.
